Safety social stories walk a young child through a safety skill one page at a time, at a calm moment, before the day it is needed. This pack is four illustrated stories: staying with a grown-up in busy places, asking for help when something is hard, private parts and body safety, and checking first with a grown-up around strangers, ready to print and read. New to social stories? The guide to social stories for autism explains how they work, and every story here is also sold on its own.

When to use safety social stories
Pick the story for the skill that matters most right now, and read it at a calm time a day or two before the moment it is for: before a trip to a busy store or park, before a hard task at home, before a doctor's visit or a new babysitter, or before a fair or a new school. Keep the others ready, and reread each one every few months so the rules stay familiar.
How to use these safety social stories
- Start with one story, the one for the skill that matters most this month.
- Choose the gentle wording first; switch to the direct one if your child does best with a plain rule.
- Print the child look that matches your child, and write their name on each cover.
- Read one page at a time, pointing to the picture before you read the sentence.
- Reread the same story for a week or two before adding the next one.

Safety social stories questions
- What are safety social stories?
- Safety social stories are short illustrated stories, in the approach developed by Carol Gray, that describe a safety skill from a young child's point of view and offer a calm way to use it. Read at a quiet time, they make the skill familiar before the moment it is needed.
- Which stories are in this pack?
- Four of the safety skills families and teachers ask about most: staying with a grown-up and stopping when called, asking for help when something is hard, private parts and body safety, and checking first with a grown-up around strangers. Each comes in a gentle and a firmer wording, so the pack prints eight booklets in all.
- Is the pack cheaper than buying the stories one at a time?
- Yes. Each of these safety social stories also sells on its own for $3, so the four together would cost $12; this pack is $8. It is the same files you would get from the four single packs, with one guide that covers every story.
- What formats and paper sizes are included?
- One ZIP with print-ready PDFs in US Letter and A4: all four stories in four child looks, each in wide and tall booklet pages and in both wordings, plus blank write-in booklets and the guide. Print at actual size, cut each sheet in half, stack the pages in order and staple.
- How do I receive the files, and can I use them with my whole class?
- Delivery is instant: checkout unlocks the download and emails you the link, and the pack stays in your My Resources library. It is licensed for personal and single-classroom use. Because it is a digital download, all sales are final; if a file will not open, email info@spectrumunlocked.com and Spectrum Unlocked will fix it.
