Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Routine Builder work?
Choose a template (morning, bedtime, after-school, or weekend) or start from scratch. Add and customize steps with durations and transition buffers. Then use the live Run Mode to guide your child through the routine with countdown timers, transition warnings, and a child-friendly focus view.
What is the difference between this and the Visual Schedule Creator?
The Visual Schedule Creator produces static, printable schedules. The Routine Builder adds interactive features: live countdown timers for each step, configurable transition buffers between activities, a child-friendly run mode, and run history tracking to see how routines go over time.
What are transition buffers?
Transition buffers are short pauses between routine steps that give your child time to shift from one activity to the next. Many children on the autism spectrum find transitions challenging. The buffer shows a clear visual cue ('Time to switch to [next activity]') with its own countdown, so your child knows what is coming and has time to prepare.
Can I use the Run Mode on a phone or tablet?
Yes. The Run Mode is designed mobile-first with a large, child-friendly focus view that works well on phones and tablets. The timer continues running even if you briefly switch apps or lock the screen.
Is my data private?
Yes. All routines and run history are stored locally on your device using your browser's localStorage. Nothing is sent to any server. You can export your data as a JSON file and delete everything at any time.
How many routines can I create?
You can save up to 20 routines, each with up to 30 steps. This covers morning, evening, weekend, and custom routines for multiple children or different days of the week.
