When to use social stories for kindergarteners
Pick the story for the moment that is hardest right now, and read it at a calm time a day or two before that moment usually comes: the week before school starts, before a playdate, a move or a new drop-off routine, or on a quiet morning after a hard week. Keep the others ready for the next sticking point, and never read one in the middle of the moment it is about.
How to use these social stories
- Start with one story, the one for the moment that is hardest this week.
- Choose the gentle wording first; switch to the direct one if your child does best with a plain rule.
- Print the child look that matches your child, and write their name on each cover.
- Read one page at a time, pointing to the picture before you read the sentence.
- Reread the same story for a week or two before adding the next one.

Social stories for kindergarteners questions
- What are social stories for kindergarteners?
- Social stories for kindergarteners are short illustrated stories, in the approach developed by Carol Gray, that describe an everyday moment from a young child's point of view and offer a calm way through it. Read at a quiet time, they make a new routine or a hard moment familiar before it happens.
- Which stories are in this pack?
- All 15 stories from the four sets: sharing, sleeping in their own bed, using a quiet voice and trying new foods; staying with their grown-up, asking for help, body safety and safe grown-ups; angry feelings, losing a game, asking before taking and telling the truth; recess, moving house and saying goodbye at drop-off.
- Is the pack cheaper than the sets or the single stories?
- Yes. Each story also sells on its own for $3, so all 15 would cost $45, and the four themed sets together cost $32; this pack is $27. It holds the same stories as the single packs, in one file per child look, with one guide that covers every story and wording.
- Are these only for kindergarten?
- No. They suit preschool through second grade, at home or in a classroom. These social stories for kindergarteners are gathered around that first school year because it brings the most new moments at once: a new routine, sharing with a class, recess, big feelings and goodbyes at drop-off.
- What formats and paper sizes are included?
- One ZIP with print-ready PDFs in US Letter and A4: all 15 stories in four child looks, each in wide and tall booklet pages and in both wordings, 30 booklets in all, plus blank write-in booklets and the guide. Print at actual size, cut each sheet in half, stack the pages and staple.
- How do I receive the files, and can I use them with my whole class?
- Delivery is instant: checkout unlocks the download and emails you the link, and the pack stays in your My Resources library. It is licensed for personal and single-classroom use. Because it is a digital download, all sales are final; if a file will not open, email info@spectrumunlocked.com and Spectrum Unlocked will fix it.
