A first job throws moments at a student that no worksheet covers: the boss changes the plan mid-task, an order goes wrong, a coworker is rude, the bus breaks down. These thirty cards practice exactly those moments. Each card is a real situation with three responses; the answers live on a separate teacher key, so the cards work for independent reading without giving anything away. The same deck runs at three levels, from choosing a response, to explaining why it works, to role-playing it, and two wallet-size phone scripts cover the calls students dread most: running late and calling in sick. The teacher guide frames every answer as a workplace convention rather than a rule, with room for the ways different students communicate.

Questions from teachers
- Who are these workplace scenario cards for?
- Teachers, job coaches and SLPs working with teens and young adults in transition, vocational and life skills programs. The situations are real first-job moments, written at a secondary reading level without childish framing.
- Do the cards show the correct answer?
- No. The cards carry the situation and three responses only; the expected choice and the why line live on a separate teacher key page. A student can read a card independently without the answer leaking, and the choices are rotated so the right answer is not always A.
- What if my student is non-speaking or uses AAC?
- The deck is built for that. The teacher guide frames every answer as a workplace convention rather than a rule, and says plainly that a response can be spoken, signed, typed or made with a device. The customer-greeting card, for example, counts a smile, a wave, a nod or an AAC greeting as the right answer.
- How do the three levels work?
- Level 1, the student chooses from the three responses. Level 2, they explain why their choice works. Level 3, they role-play it with you using the role-play page. The data sheet tracks all three per card, and the portfolio sheet totals the wins for an IEP meeting.
- What are the phone script cards?
- Two wallet-size cut-out cards with the exact words for the two calls students dread most: calling in late and calling in sick. They go home with the student, in a wallet or a phone case.
