Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Meltdown Tracker work?
The tracker has two modes: Quick Log (30 seconds) and Detailed Log. In Quick Log mode, you tap preset triggers, select a duration and intensity, and note what helped. The Detailed mode adds ABC (Antecedent-Behavior-Consequence) fields, location, contributing factors, and team notes. After logging several entries, the Patterns tab shows trigger frequency, effective strategies, time-of-day distribution, and intensity trends.
How many entries do I need before I can see patterns?
The Patterns dashboard becomes available after 3 entries, but meaningful patterns typically emerge after 2-3 weeks of consistent tracking (roughly 5-15 entries depending on frequency). The more data you log, the more reliable the pattern analysis becomes.
What is the difference between Quick Log and Detailed Log?
Quick Log captures the essentials in about 30 seconds: trigger, duration, intensity, and what helped. It is designed for logging in the moment or right after. Detailed Log adds the full ABC (Antecedent-Behavior-Consequence) format that behavioral therapists use, plus location, contributing factors, recovery time, and team notes. You can start with Quick Log and add detail later by editing the entry.
Is my child's behavior data private?
Yes. All data is stored locally on your device using your browser's localStorage. Nothing is sent to any server. You can export your data as a JSON file and delete all entries at any time. No account or login is required.
How can I share this data with my child's therapist?
Use the Print button to create a printable version of your tracking history, or use Export Data to download a JSON file. For therapy appointments, we recommend reviewing the Patterns tab and summarizing your findings: top triggers, what strategies are working, time-of-day patterns, and any intensity trends. The resource page also has a downloadable PDF version for paper-based tracking.
What are ABC data and why does my BCBA ask for it?
ABC stands for Antecedent-Behavior-Consequence. The Antecedent is what happened right before the behavior (the trigger or context). The Behavior is a specific, observable description of what the child did. The Consequence is what happened after, including your response and what helped or didn't. BCBAs use this framework to identify patterns and design behavior intervention plans. Our Detailed Log mode captures all three components.
