When to use the snack card
Use it for between-meal hunger at home, after school and on outings. A separate snack card helps when meals happen on a schedule but your child needs a way to ask in between.
How to teach the snack card
- Set up a snack spot your child can see, such as a clear tub on the counter.
- When your child heads for the tub, guide them to hand you the snack card.
- Give a small snack at once and say "snack".
- Once the card is reliable, add a first-then card if snacks only come at certain times.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between eat and snack cards?
- Eat usually means a meal, and snack means something small in between. Use one or both, depending on how your family talks about food.
- Can I put my child's favorite snack on the card?
- Yes. Open the card in the free maker and swap in a photo of the snack your child asks for most.
- What if my child asks for snacks all day?
- Honor the card while it is new, then add a schedule card that shows when snack time comes. A clear no, gently given, is easier to accept than no answer.
- Is the snack card free?
- Yes. Download the PDF free with no email, in 2 or 3 inch cards on US Letter or A4.
