Objective: Each student practices asking for help with a stuck task, using their own communication mode, three tries each.
The goal it serves: When facing a task the student cannot complete, the student will ask for help using words, a card, or a device before leaving their seat, in 4 of 5 observed opportunities.

- How do you teach asking for help in a small group?
- Engineer the stuck moment: a bag that will not zip, a marker with no cap. Model the ask in every communication mode at the table, honor every ask instantly, and record each try in the data grid. The skill is the ask, so asking must always work.
- What if a student communicates with PECS or a device?
- The ask counts in any mode: words, a help card, or a device button. The roster records each student's mode and starting prompt level, so every adult honors the same ask the same way.
- Is this the same as the taking-turns lesson on this site?
